At this time of year, notice where the sun is setting on your western horizon. Sunsets around these days will be as far north as the sun will go on the horizon. Now it begins to move south a little bit each day until Winter Solstice. In our photos here, we're going to mark near the water tower as the northern most sunset and, hopefully, we'll remember in December to see how far the sun goes to the south.

Full Strawberry Moon

Native Americans often referred to the June Full Moon as the Strawberry Moon because the strawberries were being harvested in June. The actual time of  this "full moon" in Seattle was about 4:02 AM Monday morning, June 20th (yesterday).  We were afraid we had missed the event due to a mostly cloudy sky. However, around 5:30 AM we happened to look to the west where their was a clearing near the horizon. As you can see, we were lucky!

From the Leukemia Cup Regatta website:  "The Leukemia Cup Regatta is an annual sailing event that takes place in Elliott Bay, adjacent to downtown Seattle. As the kickoff event of Elliott Bay Marina's Downtown Sailing Series, the Leukemia Cup Regatta is a casual race meant to bring sailors together over their love of boating and their commitment to fighting blood cancer. Over the last 20 years, the local sailing community has helped raise more than $1.8 million for blood cancer research and patient services." Their website is here.

National Flag Day

This is one of our favorite cards containing an image of the American Flag. To learn about the history of Flag Day take a look at USFlag.org  In brief, on August 3rd, 1949, President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day.

We like pictures with the flag and decided to look back in the archives for one to share here on Flag Day. The sun was just above the eastern horizon and starting to light up the neighborhood to our west when we snapped the photo below on June 9, 2016. We have seen this particular flag designated on nautical charts of Puget Sound to help establish locations.
